Mama's Stories

Went to lunch at Stacks in Redwood City with Karl.

I am looking at the small pile of books of Mama stories, Hrabina of Hunterdon. These 90 stories were published in Der Bay and are on Der Bay's website. All the proceeds go to supporting IAYC, International Association of Yiddish Clubs.

The book's title comes from one of the stories about Paul the Polish Fellow. He was our hired hand and spoke practically no English. He said mom spoke like a Hrabina which means countess in Polish. Mama spoke Yiddish, Hebrew, Polish, Russian, German and English. The poorest was the last one. Hunterdon was the county where our poultry breeding farm was located. We actually lived a mile East of Baptistown, a town of 180 people and a Baptist church.
